The read

## What Odoo Accounting does

The pricing model is the first thing to understand about Odoo, because everything else follows from it. One app is free forever with unlimited users and hosting included, so a business running only Accounting pays nothing. The moment a second app is added, the whole account moves to Standard at $31.10 per user per month billed yearly, or Custom at $61.00 per user per month if the client wants Odoo Studio, multi-company, external API access or on-premise hosting. Odoo counts 28 million users across the suite. The accounting app itself does bank synchronization against a stated 28,000-plus institutions, AI capture of invoices and bills at a claimed 98 percent recognition rate, automatic statement matching on 95 percent of transactions, multi-company consolidation on a single subscription, and a tax audit report with drill-down to every posted value.

The clients this suits are the ones already in the Odoo ecosystem. A manufacturer running Odoo Inventory and Manufacturing gets a ledger that shares the same data model as the operations, with no integration to build or break. Odoo also supports Peppol and a range of electronic invoicing formats, which matters for clients with European trading partners. For a US firm's ordinary book of service businesses and small retailers, the calculus is different and mostly unfavorable.

The gaps for a US practice are real. Odoo's own accounting pages describe country-specific charts of accounts and tax rules in general terms and tell prospects to "check compatibility for your country with your salesperson," which is not a reassuring answer when the question is US sales tax nexus or 1099 filing. Neither is addressed on the feature pages. There is no accountant console, no umbrella login across client databases, no wholesale billing and no ProAdvisor equivalent for US firms, so a firm supporting several Odoo clients logs into each one separately and bills its time. Support is offered 24 hours a day on weekdays in English, French, Spanish and Dutch, which is a European support model rather than a US one. Staff familiarity is another cost: nobody a firm hires will already know Odoo, and Odoo's conventions differ enough from QuickBooks that the learning curve is not trivial.

Zoho Books is the closer comparison for a US firm that wants a low-cost QuickBooks alternative, because it publishes US tax handling, has an accountant edition and is cheaper to support. NetSuite is the comparison at the other end, and the case for Odoo against it is cost and the ability to self-host. Against QuickBooks Online, Odoo wins on price and on operational depth and loses on everything to do with the US compliance chain.

One-to-watch is where this stays. Odoo is a large, well-funded, actively developed product with a genuine install base, so the concern is not viability. It is fit. Until Odoo builds something aimed at US accounting firms managing a book of clients, and documents US tax handling properly, this is a ledger a firm inherits from a client rather than one it recommends.

## What it costs and what it connects to

Odoo Accounting has a free tier. Pricing is per user, per month, across the whole suite.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for Odoo Accounting from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.
