## What QuickBooks Enterprise does

Enterprise is what is left of QuickBooks Desktop. With Pro, Premier and the Mac edition gone from Intuit's Desktop pages, this is the only locally installed QuickBooks a business can still buy, and Intuit positions it as the upgrade path for Pro and Premier customers, citing six times the list capacity and up to 40 users. It sells in four editions. Silver, Gold and Platinum support up to 30 simultaneous users with licenses sold separately in blocks of one to ten and packages of 20 or 30. Diamond goes to 40 users and is available on monthly billing only. Platinum adds Advanced Inventory with bin location tracking, Advanced Pricing, intercompany transactions and bill and purchase order approval workflows. Diamond bundles QuickBooks Time Elite at $5 per employee per month and Assisted Payroll.

The client this fits is specific: a wholesaler, manufacturer or contractor whose inventory or job costing is genuinely deeper than QuickBooks Online handles, whose staff sit in one building, and whose file has grown past what Pro could carry. Capacity runs to a million customers, vendors and inventory items. For that profile the product does real work that a cloud ledger at the same price does not.

The buying experience is where it gets unpleasant, and a firm advising a client should set expectations early. The pricing page advertises a promotional $19 a month against a struck-through $38 and then routes to "get custom pricing" and a sales line, so nobody sees a real annual number without a call. Per the site's own terms, every unique user needs a separate license, all copies must be the same version-year, the annual plan commits the client to twelve months, and cancelling outside the 60-day money-back window gets no prorated refund. Cloud hosting is a separate monthly subscription on top. Payroll, payments, Time Elite and e-commerce connectors all cost extra. The headline price and the invoice bear little relation to each other.

There is also no firm-side story here at all. No accountant console, no umbrella login, no wholesale billing, no way to see a book of Enterprise clients in one place. The client owns and pays for the subscription and the firm connects file by file, usually through a hosting session. Meanwhile Intuit is steering even Enterprise customers onward, offering managed migration to Intuit Enterprise Suite worth up to $9,000 and describing that product, not Enterprise, as the AI-native multi-entity option.

Sage Intacct and NetSuite are the alternatives for a client whose real problem is multiple entities and consolidation, and both are cloud-native with far better reporting. Enterprise beats them on cost and on the fact that the client's staff already know QuickBooks. QuickBooks Online Advanced at $340 a month is the other comparison and wins on access and integrations while losing on inventory depth.

Dated is the right tier and it holds. Enterprise is actively sold and still receives updates, so this is not abandonware, but the shape of the evidence is unmistakable: an on-premise product whose siblings have been retired, whose vendor funds migrations away from it, and which offers nothing to a firm managing a book of clients. Place it when inventory demands it, and treat it as a holding position rather than a destination.

## What it costs and what it connects to

Intuit does not publish a price for QuickBooks Enterprise; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for QuickBooks Enterprise from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.

QuickBooks Enterprise does not integrate directly with a general ledger.

Beyond that: QuickBooks Time Elite, QuickBooks Assisted Payroll, QuickBooks Payments and Intuit Enterprise Suite.

Our rating

## Why we rate QuickBooks Enterprise a Dated

QuickBooks Enterprise is rated Dated: it is one of 8 of the 26 general ledger & bookkeeping tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.

Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
