The read

## What TaxDome does

Fifteen thousand firms and five million of their clients sit on this platform, and consolidation is usually why. A firm running TaxDome stops paying separately for a portal, a document vault, an e-signature vendor, an invoicing tool and a workflow tracker, because all five are inside one subscription. Work moves through pipelines, each stage firing templated jobs, automatic client emails and document requests. Clients see a branded web portal and a mobile app carrying the firm's name, upload source documents into it, sign there, and pay through TaxDome Payments. The vendor reports 2.6 million jobs completed and $900 million in payments processed in 2025, which is a fair proxy for how much of a firm's operating surface the product ends up covering.

The bundling is the whole argument, and it is genuinely unusual. Unlimited document storage and unlimited e-signatures are included at every tier, including the $800 Essentials plan, where most competitors meter signatures or charge per envelope. A desktop app prints returns straight out of Drake, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, ProSeries, CCH Axcess, TaxAct or TaxSlayer into the right client folder without a browser. IRS transcript retrieval runs through an official integration rather than a scraper. Security is documented: SOC 2 Type II, TLS 1.2 in transit, encryption at rest with key rotation, and a third-party penetration test conducted by Google.

The same bundling is the constraint. Pricing is per user per year, billed upfront, so a ten-person firm on Business commits $12,000 before busy season starts rather than paying monthly. There is no free trial on the pricing page, only demos and a sales conversation. Essentials is solo-only, and the features most multi-person firms need sit two tiers up: bookkeeping and general ledger connections, IRS transcripts, AI reporting, custom permissions and full activity history are Pro or Business. Seasonal preparers cost extra, at $500 per four-month seat on Business or $100 per month on Pro. And because the portal, the invoices and the document store are one system, leaving is a migration rather than a swap. Firms that want to keep Ignition for proposals or a separate signature vendor are paying for capability twice.

Canopy is the closest US competitor and sells its modules separately, which suits a firm that only wants document management or only wants tax resolution. Karbon is stronger on internal email triage and team collaboration and weaker on the client-facing side, with no native portal payments story of this depth. Financial Cents undercuts TaxDome on price and is simpler to roll out, but its integration list is much shorter. TaxDome's edge over all three is the breadth of tax software it accepts documents from and the size of its practitioner community.

The technical evidence here is unusually concrete for this category: a current SOC 2 Type II, a published third-party penetration test, seven named tax programs, an official IRS integration and an install base large enough that most questions have already been answered by another firm. What keeps it a strong option rather than a first stop is commercial. Seats are billed annually and upfront, Essentials is solo-only, and the features most firms actually shop for, ledger connections, transcripts and AI reporting, sit behind the higher tiers. The all-in-one bundle is also the lock-in: a firm that later wants a different portal or a different billing system is unpicking one system rather than swapping a component. That is a fine trade for a firm that wants one vendor and one invoice, and a poor one for a firm that wants to assemble its own stack, which is why it sits alongside the alternatives rather than ahead of them.

## What it costs and what it connects to

TaxDome starts at $800 per user/year (Essentials $800/user/yr (solo only), Pro $1,000, Business $1,200 on a one-year term; two- and three-year terms cut $50 to $100 per year per tier; paid annually upfront, with installments offered above $9,000). Pricing is per user, per year.

TaxDome holds a SOC 2 Type II report.

TaxDome connects to QuickBooks Online and Zoho Books. Supporting more than one ledger matters for firms whose clients are split across them.

On the tax side it works with Drake, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, Intuit ProSeries, CCH Axcess, TaxAct and TaxSlayer, which covers most of what US firms run.

Beyond that: IRS Transcripts, Zapier, Calendly, Companies House, Rightworks and Verito.
