## What XCM does

The product a firm searches for under this name no longer carries it. Wolters Kluwer has folded XCMworkflow into its CCH Axcess suite, and the XCM Solutions site now exists mainly to say so, directing existing customers to legacy login portals and a support address while pointing everyone else at CCH Axcess Workflow. Anyone evaluating XCM today is really evaluating a module of CCH Axcess, priced and sold as part of that platform.

What the underlying product does is firm-wide work routing at scale. Every engagement, tax return, audit and accounting job enters a single queue with a status, an owner and a due date, and management gets a view of work in progress across offices, teams and service lines rather than per department. The Resource Allocation Scheduler assigns work according to role, skill level and availability, which is the feature that justified the purchase for large firms: it answers who has capacity for a 1065 review next week across 200 staff. Workflow analytics sit on top for spotting bottlenecks and rebalancing load. Integration is with CCH Axcess Tax and CCH Axcess Document, and Wolters Kluwer positions Xpitax outsourcing alongside it.

That scale is also the disqualifier for this directory's reader. XCM was built for firms with enough headcount that scheduling is a distinct management job, and Wolters Kluwer describes the target as leading firms and corporate tax departments. Nothing about the pricing model helps a smaller practice either. There is no published price, no self-service trial and no per-user plan, only a quote request, and the implementation is a platform project rather than a signup. A firm of 2 to 50 that is not already running CCH Axcess Tax gets very little from the integration story, which is where most of the value sits.

The comparisons a smaller firm should actually make are elsewhere. Karbon and Canopy deliver work management, client records and a portal for a published per-seat price and can be running in weeks. Within the Wolters Kluwer family, CCH Axcess Practice covers time, billing and WIP, and the workflow module is the layer above it, so a firm evaluating one is usually being sold both. Onvio and Practice CS are the Thomson Reuters equivalents at a similar level of platform commitment.

The inherited dated tier stands, though the reason is not neglect. Wolters Kluwer is investing here, with AI-assisted scheduling recommendations described as current development on the CCH Axcess Workflow page. Dated applies to XCM as a thing a firm can buy under that name: the standalone product is gone, the legacy site is a redirect notice, and adopting it today means adopting CCH Axcess. Firms already on it are fine and should plan for the CCH Axcess branding and login change. Firms not already on it should not start here. Pricing, contract terms and any current security attestations could not be established from public pages, all of which sit behind a sales conversation.

## What it costs and what it connects to

Wolters Kluwer does not publish a price for XCM; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for XCM from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.

XCM does not integrate directly with a general ledger.

On the tax side it works with CCH Axcess Tax.

Beyond that: CCH Axcess Document and Xpitax Tax Outsourcing.

Our rating

## Why we rate XCM a Dated

XCM is rated Dated: it is one of 18 of the 49 practice management tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.

Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
