The read

## What Anchor does

Charging nothing per month and $5 per payment received is an unusual model in accounting software, and it is the first reason to look at Anchor. There are no user seats, no client bands and no invoice caps. A firm that collects 40 payments a month pays $200, which on a monthly bookkeeping book is a fraction of what a banded subscription plus processing would cost. Card payments carry the usual 2.9% plus $0.30, which the vendor states is presented to the client rather than absorbed by the firm, and bank transfers carry no processing charge at all. On a few hundred thousand dollars of annual collections steered toward ACH, that combination is close to the cheapest way to get money in the door in this category.

The mechanism behind it is what the company calls a live agreement. The client signs the engagement terms and supplies a payment method in the same flow, once. Invoices are then generated from the signed agreement itself rather than typed by a person, charged on the due date, and reconciled against both the bank and the accounting file. The practical effect is that accounts receivable largely stops being a task. This is firmly the collect-the-money half of the category, not the sign-the-document half.

The trade-off is document depth. Anchor's own pages describe converting an engagement letter into a live agreement, but nothing we could fetch identifies a template library or says who drafted the terms, which means a firm is expected to bring its own letter language and, realistically, its own counsel. Ignition names the National Association of Tax Professionals and the National Association of Enrolled Agents as the source of its terms. Anchor does not name anyone. For a bookkeeping engagement that is a small gap. For an attest or a tax representation engagement it is not.

Coverage is the other constraint. The confirmed ledger integration is QuickBooks Online, with no US tax software connection and no practice management workspace, so Anchor slots alongside whatever the firm already runs rather than replacing it. Automatic charging on the due date also assumes clients who accept that arrangement, and a firm with legacy clients used to paying by check thirty days late will do change management before it sees the benefit. The security page shows a SOC 2 badge and PCI DSS compliance and runs a coordinated vulnerability disclosure program, but does not state the SOC 2 report type or where data is held.

Top pick holds, with a clear split against Ignition rather than a ranking. Ignition suits a firm with many small recurring charges, where its $5 ACH cap and deeper tax stack integrations pay off, and it answers the template question properly. Anchor suits a firm with fewer, larger invoices and no appetite for a monthly subscription, and its per-payment price is the honest comparison point. Against Cone, Anchor is narrower on proposal design and stronger on collections mechanics.

## What it costs and what it connects to

Anchor starts at $5 per payment received (no monthly fee and no user, client or invoice limits; bank transfers carry no processing charge, and a 2.9% plus $0.30 card fee is presented to the client rather than the firm). Pricing is per payment collected, no subscription.

Anchor holds a SOC 2 report.

Anchor connects to QuickBooks Online, which is the integration that decides whether a tool fits a firm's existing book of clients.

Beyond that: Bank feeds for reconciliation.
