## What TaxTools does

Calling this tax resolution software overstates what CFS actually sells. TaxTools is a Windows desktop toolbox of more than 300 modules: 78 general utilities, 38 decision flowcharts, 141 fill-in forms, 24 retirement calculations and 23 financial calculations, all updated annually and all producing client-branded printable output. Among the 141 forms sit the ones that put it in this category, namely 433-A for individual collection information, 433-B for businesses, 433-D for an installment agreement, 656 for an offer in compromise and 656-L for doubt as to liability, plus the associated appeal and relief forms. Data maps automatically between forms so a taxpayer's details are entered once. A first single-user purchase is $239 and covers the 2026 and 2027 tax years, renewals are $229, and network versions run from $234 to $473. It requires Windows 7 SP1 through Windows 11 and about 100 MB of disk.

For a preparer who needs a clean, filled 433-A three times a year and does not want a subscription, that price is hard to argue with, and the wider toolbox earns its keep during return season on the retirement, depreciation and dependency questions the forms library does not cover. CFS clearly still invests in the product line, which now also includes LivePayroll, Schedule D Tools, W2/1099 and recently added AI Tax Research and Forms Library modules.

What it does not do defines it for this category. There is no IRS transcript access at all, so nothing pulls an account transcript, nothing parses a wage and income record, and nothing tells the firm that a lien is pending, an assessment has posted, or a collection statute expiration date has moved. That is the feature most resolution work turns on, and it is entirely absent. There is no reasonable collection potential engine either. The forms are fill-in documents with data mapping, not a calculation that applies the IRS Collection Financial Standards to a client's allowable living expenses and refreshes those standards each year, so the analytical work that decides whether an offer succeeds happens outside the software. There is no case management, no client portal, no e-signature, no monitoring and no billing. It is desktop software on a per-machine licence in a category that has moved to cloud platforms with IRS connectivity.

Set against PitBullTax at $1,260 a year for a single unlimited-client user plus $405 for the transcript module, or IRS Solutions at $1,890 a year with weekly account monitoring included, TaxTools is not really the same purchase. It competes with a PDF filler, not with a resolution platform, and at $239 it wins that comparison comfortably.

The inherited tier of one-to-watch is wrong and has been changed to dated. One-to-watch means early and unproven, and this is the reverse: a long-established, actively renewed Windows product with a mature customer base. Dated is the accurate description of what it is in this category. It still works, it is cheap, and a firm already using it for worksheets has no urgent reason to stop. But a firm choosing resolution software today would be buying a forms package and doing the transcript work, the collection analysis and the case tracking somewhere else.

Our rating

## Why we rate TaxTools a Dated

TaxTools is rated Dated: it is one of 1 of the 6 tax resolution & irs representation tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.

Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
