## What CTRL+Filing does

Two products are bundled here and it helps to separate them. The first is ordinary practice workflow: a client database with custom fields and saved views, a visual calendar with overdue and due-soon alerts, template-driven projects with sequential task dependencies, a kanban board, and a branded client portal that pushes status updates automatically. The second is document handling: AI that recognises W-2s, 1099s and K-1s as they are uploaded and files them into the right folders, generates bookmarks and review notes, validates calculations and flags anomalies, then exports the processed data to the tax program.

The AI is optional, and the vendor says so plainly on the feature page and again in the FAQ. A firm can disable it at any time and manage documents manually. That is an unusually honest piece of positioning in a market where every competitor leads with autonomy, and it lowers the risk of adopting the workflow half without betting on the extraction half.

Pricing is the other unusual thing. The Pro plan is listed at $39 per user per month and is currently being given away during an introductory period, with no payment details collected and an explicit promise that nobody is billed automatically when it ends. For a five-person practice that is a materially different proposition from the quote-only enterprise contracts that dominate this category.

Where it falls short is integration and provenance. The FAQ states directly that CTRL+Filing currently integrates with CCH Axcess and that other platforms are being added based on client demand. Everything else is standardised CSV or Excel export with custom field mapping, which means a Drake, UltraTax or Lacerte firm is moving files by hand. Beyond that, almost nothing about the company is verifiable. There is no about page, no team page, no customer names, no case studies and no security page; the /security and /about paths return the site shell. Encryption claims of AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, per-firm database isolation, audit trails and two-factor authentication appear only inside a pricing FAQ answer, with no SOC 2 report referenced. Nothing covers e-signature, so Form 8879 with third-party knowledge-based authentication and the fallback path when KBA fails is not addressed at all, and the product does not extend to entity returns or K-1 distribution.

Taxaroo and Truss cover similar ground with more published detail about the companies behind them, and Liscio is the stronger choice for a firm whose problem is client communication and document chasing rather than internal task tracking. Against Filed or Black Ore, this is not really the same class of product; the extraction here is classification and bookmarking, not drafting a return.

One-to-watch is the correct tier and the reason is the absence of a company, not the presence of a bad product. The feature set is coherent, the price is honest, and the option to turn the AI off is sensible. But a firm cannot find out who builds it, who else uses it, where the data lives, or whether there is a security attestation, and the single named tax integration rules out most of the practices this directory serves. Worth a free trial. Not yet worth a season.

## What it costs and what it connects to

CTRL+Filing starts at $39 per user/month (listed at $39 per user per month, offered free during an introductory period with no card collected). Pricing is per user, per month. A free trial is available: free introductory period, no credit card required.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for CTRL+Filing from public sources, multi-factor authentication is available. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.

CTRL+Filing does not integrate directly with a general ledger.

On the tax side it works with CCH Axcess.

Beyond that: CSV and Excel export.

Our rating

## Why we rate CTRL+Filing a One to Watch

CTRL+Filing is rated One to Watch, alongside 12 other of the 26 tax workflow & document automation tools in this directory.

Early or unproven at firm scale. Often genuinely interesting technology without the track record, support depth, or install base to bet a busy season on yet.
