The read

## What Filed does

What separates Filed from most of the AI tax entrants is that it publishes the answers to the questions firms actually ask. Six tax programs are named as write-back targets: CCH Axcess, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, Drake Tax, ProConnect and GoSystem Tax RS. The system reads the client binder and enters the data into the software the firm already runs, either in bulk or line by line through a tool called Prowork that operates inside the existing interface. A separate review product cross-checks the entered figures against source documents to catch transposed digits and missing K-1 entries. A planner evaluates a stated 120 or more strategies against the finished return data. Practice management sync runs two ways with Karbon, Canopy, TaxDome, Financial Cents, Truss and Qount.

Pricing is published as a structure even though the number is not: a flat monthly fee scoped to the size of the firm's client book, with no per-seat, per-return or per-credit charges, every preparer and reviewer included, and no extra cost for reprocessing, amendments or corrections. For a firm at 1,500 returns that is a genuinely different economic model from per-return pricing, and it is the reason a mid-sized practice should ask for a quote. A 60-day money-back guarantee covers the pilot.

The trust centre is specific where it matters. Data is processed and stored on US servers, and the stated policy is that source documents and returns are never shipped offshore. SSO through the firm's identity provider, role-based permissions for partners, managers and staff, TLS 1.2 in transit and AES-256 at rest, and no client data used to train models. The company also states that some ultra-complex and edge-case returns are reviewed by its own internal tax professionals before being marked reviewer-ready, which is a fair disclosure of where a human sits in the loop, though it does not quantify how often that happens.

The weaknesses are real. There is no e-signature and no Form 8879 handling anywhere in the product, so knowledge-based authentication to the Publication 1345 standard, and the fallback when an older client cannot pass KBA, still has to come from SafeSend, TaxCaddy or an equivalent. Filed handles preparation and review, not delivery. The SOC 2 announcement does not state a type, so whether it is a Type I or a Type II report is unresolved from the public material. And the company is young: it rebranded from Numiro, joined the 2025 AICPA and CPA.com Startup Accelerator, and its own about page describes tax season 2025 as when its first customers processed returns.

Against Black Ore, Filed covers more return types today, including 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041 and 990 with K-1 generation and flow-through, and it publishes a pricing model rather than an enterprise tier. Black Ore reaches more engines and has a longer funded history.

The inherited tier was top-pick and this moves to strong-option. The evidence is genuinely good for a company this new, with named small firms including JCG Tax, Paramount Tax & Accounting and Smith CPA Group, an AICPA accelerator place, roughly $17 million raised and the most legible integration and pricing disclosure in the category. But top-pick means where we would start, and two filing seasons of history with no e-signature and an unspecified SOC 2 type is not yet where a firm should begin. It is the strongest of the new entrants, and that is a different claim.

## What it costs and what it connects to

The vendor does not publish a price for Filed; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.

Filed holds a SOC 2 report, multi-factor authentication is available, SAML single sign-on is supported.

Filed does not integrate directly with a general ledger.

On the tax side it works with CCH Axcess, UltraTax CS, Lacerte, Drake Tax, ProConnect and GoSystem Tax RS, which covers most of what US firms run.

Beyond that: Karbon, Canopy, TaxDome, Financial Cents, Truss and Qount.

Our rating

## Why we rate Filed a Strong Option

Filed is rated Strong Option, alongside 5 other of the 26 tax workflow & document automation tools in this directory.

A credible choice that wins on a specific fit rather than across the board — a price point, a niche, a workflow, or an integration the top picks do not cover as well.
