The read

## What Liscio does

Document handling is what Liscio leads with now. Files arriving from clients are read, identified as a W-2, a 1099, a K-1 or a bank statement, and renamed to whatever convention the firm already uses, then made searchable by metadata rather than by folder path. Around that sit the things a client actually touches: secure messages, an email integration, tasks, requests, and a per-client timeline that puts every exchange in one place. The vendor reports more than 400,000 active users and 20 million files processed, and offers a dedicated migration path off FileCabinet CS, which tells you which install base it is aiming at.

The tax-season half is what puts it in this category. Organizers go out personalised with automated follow-up, and Liscio claims a 72 percent return rate on them. Smart Tax Delivery walks the client through the finished return, collects the 8879 signature and schedules payment. On the authentication axis, Liscio uses knowledge-based authentication to meet the IRS identity requirement and, usefully, lets the firm turn KBA off where an exception applies, which is how in-person signing and long-standing client relationships get handled. Joint filers and same-device spouse signing are supported, and paper signature remains available. Returns are imported as PDFs from UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake, ProSeries or CCH Axcess, so no tax software change is required, but note what that means: this is delivery of a finished PDF, not extraction and not write-back into the tax program.

That framing matters when placing Liscio, because it is not a point tool that complements a practice management system. It competes with TaxDome and Canopy directly, on portal, messaging, document management, organizers and e-signature. A firm already paying for TaxDome is buying most of this twice. The honest comparison is which portal the firm wants to live in, and Liscio's differentiator is document intelligence and communication quality rather than workflow, billing or time tracking, all of which TaxDome and Canopy include and Liscio does not.

The pricing is published, which is welcome, and it stacks. Intelligent Files is $19 per user per month billed annually and gives file handling only. The Platform tier at $49 adds the client workflow, e-signature and branding. Tax Team at $99 adds the tax tooling with 100 organizers, 100 deliveries and 100 e-signatures included per user per year, and everything beyond those allowances is $5 an organizer or delivery. For a five-person firm filing 800 returns, that per-user model plus overage is a very different bill from SafeSend's per-return tiers, and it is worth modelling both. Nothing on the site addresses K-1 distribution or entity return delivery, which is a gap for firms with partnership work.

Against SafeSend, Liscio is broader and weaker at the delivery job itself. Against TaxCaddy, it owns the whole client relationship rather than just the document gathering. Against Soraban, it does not touch workpapers or tax software write-back at all.

The inherited tier was dated and the evidence does not support that. Published per-seat pricing, a current SOC 2, an actively marketed AI file-naming capability and a live FileCabinet CS migration programme describe a product being invested in. Strong option, with the caveat that the fit is portal replacement, not a bolt-on.
