Citation formatting, verification, and retraction checks
Overview
Scholar Sidekick takes an identifier and returns a formatted reference. Accepted forms include a DOI, a PubMed or PMC ID, an ISBN, an arXiv ID, an ISSN, and ADS bibcodes. Style options include Vancouver, APA, AMA, IEEE, and CSE, plus the wider CSL library of more than 10,000 styles.
A second function tests whether a citation is genuine. The app compares a claimed title and author list against the record actually held at that identifier, which catches the case where a valid DOI has been attached to a title that does not exist or does not match.
It also reports retractions, corrections, and expressions of concern. Output appears as a citation card carrying the verdict, the formatted reference, and the identifier used.

Verification and retraction status sit alongside the formatting, so a reference can be checked and typeset in one step.
Availability
Scholar Sidekick is listed in the ChatGPT apps directory only. Mark Lavercombe has no connector under the same domain in the Claude directory; 392 of the 3,150 products here are on both marketplaces, and this is not one of them.
ChatGPT apps are built on MCP, and the same server can back a Claude connector, so the absence is a distribution decision rather than a technical one.

This is an independent catalogue entry compiled by Node8 from Scholar Sidekick's public marketplace listing as it stood in August 2026. Listing facts come from the marketplaces; the comparisons against the rest of the directory and any live-endpoint measurements are Node8's. Node8 is not affiliated with Mark Lavercombe, and inclusion here is not an endorsement.
Node8 builds MCP servers end to end: deciding which tools are worth exposing, the authentication and permission model, the review submissions, and the onboarding that gets them used. One server serves ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
