Who it is for
People letting AI agents transact who want per-merchant limits and an approval step.
Spend-limited virtual cards for agent purchases
Overview
Allowance sits between a person and an AI agent that needs to spend money. Instead of handing an agent a personal card number, it issues virtual cards carrying spending limits and supplies checkout details only for purchases that have been approved.
Active allowances can be reviewed, paused, or left running. The example prompts cover creating a one-time card capped at a set amount for a named retailer, pausing an allowance tied to a store, and listing which spending permissions are currently live. Approval is the step the app inserts into an agent purchase.

The card number an agent sees is virtual and capped, so the underlying card stays hidden from it.
Availability
Allowance ships this on both marketplaces: Allowance is listed in the Claude connectors directory and in the ChatGPT apps directory, under the same publisher domain.
Only 392 of the 3,150 products in this directory are listed in both marketplaces. One MCP server can serve both surfaces; what differs is each platform's listing and review process.

Allowance publishes 22 tools to Claude, deeper than 72.2% of the 1,253 Claude-listed connectors.
The median Claude-listed connector filed under Finance publishes 12, so this one runs 10 tools above its bucket's median and ranks 42nd of 159 by tool count.
It falls in the 21-50 tools band, which holds 20% of the Claude directory.
Allowance publishes a remote MCP endpoint. Claude connects to it over HTTP; there is nothing to install locally.
Every connector in the Claude directory is remote, all 1,253 of them, so transport is not a differentiator there.
https://mcp.useallowance.com/ Allowance is community-listed in the Claude directory, the tier 770 of 1,253 connectors sit in (61.5%). It is the default for a self-published server, and says nothing either way about quality.
In the publisher's words
Allowance is a payment security layer for AI agents. It lets Claude request a human-approved spending allowance, then use scoped virtual cards to complete purchases without exposing the user's real card. The connector supports approval requests, approval polling, contact and address retrieval for checkout, one-time virtual card issuance, remote fulfillment status, purchase result reporting, allowance management, and merchant capability checks. OAuth sign-in connects each Claude user to their own Allowance account. Allowance is designed for agent-initiated purchases that need clear spend limits, receipts, revocation, and an audit trail.

This is an independent catalogue entry compiled by Node8 from Allowance's public marketplace listings as they stood in August 2026. Listing facts come from the marketplaces; the comparisons against the rest of the directory and any live-endpoint measurements are Node8's. Node8 is not affiliated with Allowance, and inclusion here is not an endorsement.
Node8 builds MCP servers end to end: deciding which tools are worth exposing, the authentication and permission model, the review submissions, and the onboarding that gets them used. One server serves ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
