Edmunds values a car and collects purchase offers for it. A VIN or a set of vehicle details identifies the car, and mileage plus condition refine the figure.
The app returns up to three offers from competing buyers, with CarMax and EchoPark named among them. These are redeemable offers rather than estimates, and there is no obligation attached to receiving one.
When no offers come back for a particular vehicle, Edmunds falls back to its True Market Value figure, an estimate calculated from recorded sale prices. Selling outright, checking a trade-in figure, and simply asking what a used car is worth all run through the same flow.
