Who it is for
Someone working across several AI tools who wants project context to persist between them instead of being re-explained.
Persistent Markdown knowledge base shared across AI tools
Overview
Basic Memory keeps decisions, research notes and project context in plain Markdown files that stay under the account holder's control. Whatever an assistant writes there is an ordinary file that can be opened and edited by hand, and whatever is written by hand is available to the assistant later.
Retrieval works several ways. Search runs semantically and through hybrid matching across everything stored. Structured filters narrow by status, type, tag or priority, so a request for open tasks ordered by priority returns a list. Notes link to one another, and those links can be followed to reach related material.
A workspace can be shared with a team, giving several people and their assistants one common store. Because the format is Markdown, the same notes remain readable by other tools.

Storage is plain Markdown the owner keeps, which makes the same notes usable outside the app that wrote them.
Availability
Basic Memory ships this on both marketplaces: Basic Memory Cloud is listed in the Claude connectors directory and in the ChatGPT apps directory, under the same publisher domain.
Only 392 of the 3,150 products in this directory are listed in both marketplaces. One MCP server can serve both surfaces; what differs is each platform's listing and review process.

Claude listing
Basic Memory Cloud publishes 21 tools to Claude, deeper than 70.5% of the 1,253 Claude-listed connectors.
The median Claude-listed connector filed under Productivity publishes 12, so this one runs 9 tools above its bucket's median and ranks 147th of 462 by tool count.
It falls in the 21-50 tools band, which holds 20% of the Claude directory.
Basic Memory Cloud publishes a remote MCP endpoint. Claude connects to it over HTTP; there is nothing to install locally.
Every connector in the Claude directory is remote, all 1,253 of them, so transport is not a differentiator there.
https://cloud.basicmemory.com/mcp Basic Memory Cloud is community-listed in the Claude directory, the tier 770 of 1,253 connectors sit in (61.5%). It is the default for a self-published server, and says nothing either way about quality.
In the publisher's words
Basic Memory gives you a persistent knowledge base: your notes, decisions, research, and project context, stored as plain Markdown files you own. Anything Claude saves, you can open and edit. Anything you write, Claude can find and build on. Save what matters. "Save our pricing decision and link it to the roadmap." Notes you save in one conversation are available everywhere. Retrieve context from anywhere. "What did we decide about pricing? Check my notes first." Never re-explain a project. Search by meaning. Semantic and hybrid search across everything you and your AI have saved. Structured search. Filter by status, type, tags, or priority. "Show my open tasks, sorted by priority." Follow connections. Linked notes let Claude traverse related context and surface relationships in a living knowledge graph. Share a workspace with your team. Teammates and their AI tools read and write to one shared source of truth. Notes are stored as ordinary Markdown that you own. Any AI tool can use and build on it, so your shared context follows you across the assistants and agents you use.

This is an independent catalogue entry compiled by Node8 from Basic Memory Cloud's public marketplace listings as they stood in August 2026. Listing facts come from the marketplaces; the comparisons against the rest of the directory and any live-endpoint measurements are Node8's. Node8 is not affiliated with Basic Memory, and inclusion here is not an endorsement.
Node8 builds MCP servers end to end: deciding which tools are worth exposing, the authentication and permission model, the review submissions, and the onboarding that gets them used. One server serves ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
