What Protplex does
Protplex puts a natural language layer over the Protein Data Bank. Instead of matching on identifiers or exact field values, it works from condensed profiles of each entry describing structure, function and biochemistry.
The searchable dimensions listed are function, structure, chemistry, source organism, assembly, bound ligands and experimental context, across a collection the record puts at more than 240,000 structures. A single query can therefore combine constraints that would otherwise mean several separate searches, as in the record's own example of archaeal enzymes carrying a particular cofactor.
The record describes search and retrieval, with no mention of structure prediction, alignment or visualisation.
