The read

What TaxPlannerPro does

For 49 dollars a month, Tax Planner Pro publishes a longer list of what it actually calculates than tools costing twenty times as much. Federal projections run 2025 through 2030 alongside income tax for all 50 states, and the model covers alternative minimum tax, net investment income tax, the qualified business income deduction, self-employment tax, preferential capital gains rates, Social Security taxability worked through the combined income formula, and Medicare IRMAA surcharges. A Roth conversion solver projects out 25 years. Returns come in by OCR, scenarios sit beside one another with unlimited variations per client, and the output is a branded PDF: a tax summary broken down by income source, an eight-page Tax Explorer report, an Excel export of the scenario columns, and a Proposal Report designed to be shown before the engagement is signed. Clients never get a login, which suits advisors who present rather than share.

The fit is a solo preparer, a small tax practice, or an advisor doing tax-aware planning who wants a real projection at a price that does not need a business case. Anyone expecting the software to tell them which strategies to run will be disappointed in a different way than they expect: there is an AI agent called Nova that produces planning analysis, and a connection to LedgerHQ for pulling business profit and loss data, but the strategy library and the sales scaffolding that TaxPlanIQ or Corvee wrap around a plan are not the point here. This is the calculator.

Two things need pricing out properly. OCR is metered, not included: two free credits at signup, then packs that work out to 10, 8 or 7.50 dollars a credit depending on size, non-refundable, valid while the subscription is live. A firm running fifty plans a year is adding several hundred dollars to the 588 dollar subscription. More seriously, the vendor is close to anonymous. There is no about page naming a company, founders, headquarters or team, and no security page at all: no SOC 2, no encryption statement, no data residency, nothing on MFA. That is a real problem for a product whose entire input is a scanned tax return, and it is the single biggest reason to hesitate. The site's emphasis on working with agent platforms including Claude, Codex and Grok reads as current rather than reassuring. No integration with any mainstream preparation package is named, and the excess business loss limitation does not appear on the published calculation list.

Against TaxPlanIQ, the trade is stark. TaxPlanIQ costs between 397 and 997 dollars a month and gates its projections at the top tier, and what it buys is the strategy library, the fee proposal and the training. Tax Planner Pro gives up all of that and delivers more computation for less than the cost of a client lunch. Against BNA Income Tax Planner or Planner CS, it publishes a price and a calculation list, which neither of those does, while lacking their institutional backing entirely. Holistiplan is the closest comparison on the read-a-1040-and-produce-a-report workflow.

One-to-watch is kept, and it is the right label rather than a criticism of the maths. The computation coverage is genuinely deeper than most of this category, and the price is unmatched. But there is no verifiable company behind it, no security documentation, no published evidence of adoption at firm scale, and no support depth that a firm could point to in March. Worth trialling on a live return for the cost of a month. Not yet worth standardising a practice on.

Pricing, security, integrations

What it costs and what it connects to

TaxPlannerPro starts at $49 per month (cancel anytime; OCR credits sold separately at 10, 8 or 7.50 dollars each by pack size). Pricing is flat monthly subscription plus metered OCR credits. A free trial is available: 2 free OCR credits at signup and a 7-day money-back guarantee.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for TaxPlannerPro from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.

TaxPlannerPro connects to LedgerHQ, which is the integration that decides whether a tool fits a firm's existing book of clients.
