What Black Ore does
Tax Autopilot is the product name, and the span it covers is wider than most tools in this category. It generates the client data request, classifies what comes back, assembles binders and workpapers, extracts and maps the field values, exports them into the firm's tax program, then runs anomaly detection and produces a tie-out package and an audit export that links every validated figure to its evidence. Permissions run at return, document and field level, which is the kind of detail that only appears once a vendor has been through a real firm's security review.
The integration list is the strongest argument here and the reason to take it seriously. Black Ore names nine tax programs it exports into: CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, UltraTax CS, GoSystem Tax RS, Lacerte, ProSeries, ProConnect, Drake Tax and ATX. That is broader than anything else in this batch, and it means the answer to whether the tool fits the firm's engine is usually yes. Security is documented rather than implied: SOC 2 Type II against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 or better in transit, US data centres, SSO and MFA, and an explicit statement that client information is never sent to offshore teams and never used for model training.
Two things should slow a smaller firm down. Coverage is the 1040 plus K-1 and K-3 schedules; 1041 and 1065 are listed as coming soon, so a practice with meaningful entity work still runs a second process. And the buyer is visibly not a small practice. The company markets to Top 100 firms, claims 40% of the Top 20, splits pricing into a standard tier and an enterprise tier for firms filing tens of thousands of returns a year, and publishes no number for either. The public material also says nothing about how many documents route to human verification or who staffs that queue, and nothing about e-signature, so Form 8879 with third-party knowledge-based authentication and the fallback when an older client fails KBA still comes from SafeSend, TaxCaddy or a similar tool.
Against Filed, Black Ore reaches more tax programs but Filed publishes a pricing structure and names small firms as customers. Against 1040SCAN, Black Ore is trying to produce a drafted return rather than populated fields, which is worth more if the accuracy holds and worth less if reviewers end up checking everything anyway. The published claims of greater than 99% extraction accuracy and 98% time savings are vendor figures with no independent basis on the site.
One-to-watch is correct. The $60 million Series A announced in November 2023 with a16z and Oak HC/FT is real money, and Tax Autopilot only reached general availability in April 2026, which means one season of production use. The technology, the integration coverage and the security posture are all ahead of most of the field. What does not yet exist is a track record at the scale of firm this directory serves, or any published price a firm of that size can evaluate.

What it costs and what it connects to
The vendor does not publish a price for Black Ore; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.
Black Ore holds a SOC 2 Type II report, multi-factor authentication is available, SAML single sign-on is supported.
Black Ore does not integrate directly with a general ledger.
On the tax side it works with CCH Axcess Tax, CCH ProSystem fx, UltraTax CS, GoSystem Tax RS, Lacerte, ProSeries, ProConnect, Drake Tax and ATX, which covers most of what US firms run.
Our rating
Why we rate Black Ore a One to Watch
Black Ore is rated One to Watch, alongside 12 other of the 26 tax workflow & document automation tools in this directory.
Early or unproven at firm scale. Often genuinely interesting technology without the track record, support depth, or install base to bet a busy season on yet.
