The read

What Soraban does

Four products cover the span this category is named for. Collect handles client intake, sorting uploads and chasing the clients who have not sent anything, with the vendor reporting 89 percent client adoption in year one and a four-minute client onboarding. Prepare builds workpapers where every extracted figure links back to the page it came from, which is the property that makes a reviewer trust the binder. Connect pushes the extracted data into the tax program. Deliver packages the finished return, runs the 8879 signature, and takes the payment or issues the voucher, taking a step the vendor times at 30 minutes down to about three.

The write-back list is the part to check against a firm's own stack: UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake and CCH Axcess are live, with ProConnect Tax announced. That covers most of this directory's readership but not all of it, and ProSeries and ProSystem fx are absent. Data lands on the correct form lines, so a preparer opens the return at review rather than at data entry. A verification queue sits in front of that push, surfacing flags of the type that actually cause rework, including state mismatches, misplaced decimals and missing basis, with the preparer and timestamp recorded against each. Soraban does not publish who staffs that queue or what share of documents land in it, which is the one number a firm should ask for in a demo.

On signatures, Soraban runs a guided 8879 flow that supports joint filers and spouse signing, and its security page states compliance with NIST IAL2 identity verification, which is the standard the IRS points to for remote 8879 signing. Coverage extends past the 1040 to entity returns and K-1s, with 1120-S named explicitly. The security posture is above average for a company this young: SOC 2 Type II audited annually, AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2 or better in transit, MFA, no client data used to train models or handed to external AI providers, and configurable retention that ends in deletion.

The limits are the ones that come with a 2021 company. No price appears on the site, so the per-return economics that decide this purchase at 200 returns versus 1,500 have to be extracted from sales. The install base is 350 or so firms, which is credible after six tax seasons but is two orders of magnitude below SafeSend. Entity coverage is described more thinly than 1040 coverage, and a firm whose volume is mostly 1065s and 1120s should test that before signing. The company is venture-scale and independent, which cuts both ways.

The natural comparison is SafeSend, which owns assembly and delivery outright and does it for many more firms, but stops short of workpapers and tax software write-back. Soraban's claim is that one vendor covers intake, prep and delivery, so documents do not get re-handled between three tools. Against Juno, which pushes into Drake, Lacerte, ProConnect and CCH Axcess and publishes a flat per-return price, Soraban is broader and less transparent on cost. Against GruntWorx it trades tax program breadth for an actual workflow.

Top pick stands. Six seasons of production use, a named write-back list, a published SOC 2 Type II, a status page and a trust centre are more evidence than most tools in this category offer, and the product spans the whole workflow this category describes rather than one slice of it.

What it costs and what it connects to

The vendor does not publish a price for Soraban; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.

Soraban holds a SOC 2 Type II report, multi-factor authentication is available.
