Who it is for
Researchers and science journalists tracking work before it clears peer review.
Overview
bioRxiv and medRxiv host biology and medical research posted before peer review, which makes them the fastest place to see new work and the least filtered. This connector, built by Anthropic, reaches both servers: full text search returning DOIs, titles, authors and abstract previews, complete metadata retrieval by DOI, the subject category list for narrowing a search, and lookups for which preprints later appeared in peer reviewed journals. Funder based search runs off ROR identifiers, and two statistics calls cover submission volume and readership over time. No credentials are needed. Nothing in this corpus has been refereed, which is the standing caveat on anything retrieved from it.

The endpoint returned seven tools against a published eight, and the observed set covers search, metadata, category listing, publication tracking, funder search and two statistics endpoints, all of them reads.
Availability
bioRxiv is listed in the Claude connectors directory only. Anthropic has no app under the same domain in the ChatGPT directory; 392 of the 3,150 products here are on both marketplaces, and this is not one of them.
The MCP server behind a Claude connector is usually the same server a ChatGPT app would need, so the absence is a distribution decision rather than a technical one.
Claude listing
bioRxiv publishes 8 tools to Claude. That is a mid-sized surface: 37.7% of the 1,253 Claude-listed connectors expose fewer.
The median Claude-listed connector filed under Healthcare & Life Sciences publishes 6, so this one runs 2 tools above its bucket's median and ranks 16th of 51 by tool count.
It falls in the 7-10 tools band, which holds 14.6% of the Claude directory.
A direct call to the endpoint returned 7 tools, 1 fewer than the 8 the listing publishes. Probed 2026-08-07.
search_preprintsget_preprintget_categoriessearch_published_preprintssearch_by_funderget_content_statisticsget_usage_statisticsbioRxiv publishes a remote MCP endpoint. Claude connects to it over HTTP; there is nothing to install locally.
Every connector in the Claude directory is remote, all 1,253 of them, so transport is not a differentiator there.
https://hcls.mcp.claude.com/biorxiv/mcp bioRxiv is one of only 9 connectors in the entire Claude directory built by Anthropic itself, 0.7% of the 1,253 listings. Everything else is published by a third party.
In the publisher's words
The bioRxiv Connector gives Claude access to bioRxiv and medRxiv preprint servers, hosting research papers in biological and medical sciences posted before peer review.
Quoted from the connector's own Claude directory listing as captured in August 2026. Node8 did not write it and does not vouch for it.

This is an independent catalogue entry compiled by Node8 from bioRxiv's public marketplace listing as it stood in August 2026. Listing facts come from the marketplaces; the comparisons against the rest of the directory and any live-endpoint measurements are Node8's. Node8 is not affiliated with Anthropic, and inclusion here is not an endorsement.
Node8 builds MCP servers end to end: deciding which tools are worth exposing, the authentication and permission model, the review submissions, and the onboarding that gets them used. One server serves ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
