The read
What Aider does
Karbon acquired Aider in October 2025, and that fact shapes how a US firm should read the product. Aider itself predates the deal by seven years. It is an Auckland company that connects to client Xero and QuickBooks Online files, runs a standing set of data quality checks across all of them, and presents the result two ways: a period close checklist for each client, and a firm-wide dashboard showing which books are clean, which are stuck, and who is carrying too much of the month. On the same data it generates management reports with an executive summary, action points and client-facing charts, which is the half of the product Aider sells as advisory rather than compliance.
The daily rhythm is queue-driven. A bookkeeper opens the dashboard, sees which clients have unreconciled items, aged payables or figures that broke a threshold the firm set, and works the exceptions instead of opening twenty ledgers in turn. The advisory dashboard applies the same traffic-light logic to client health, with filtering, tagging and benchmarking aimed at spotting who is ready for a conversation. Junior staff can generate a defensible client report without a manager building it, which is the specific bottleneck Aider is designed around.
Two things limit the fit for a US buyer. The first is pricing: the only published price lists are for New Zealand and Australia, the US equivalent returns a 404, and the New Zealand page sets a NZ$150 monthly minimum on a twelve-month term with per-client rates that fall as clients are added and require a quote. The second is heritage. The checks and the reporting cadence grew up around ANZ compliance rhythms, and nothing on the site addresses US sales tax, 1099 preparation or state filing. Aider publishes no security page and makes no SOC 2 claim. The acquisition adds a further open question, since the roadmap now belongs to Karbon and the obvious direction is deeper fusion with Karbon practice management, which is less attractive to a firm running Canopy or TaxDome.
Compared with Xbert, which comes from the same Xero-first lineage and goes deeper on anomaly detection while doing less with reporting, Aider is the broader product and the one with a parent company. Compared with the Books Close module in Intuit Accountant Suite, which is free during beta but bound to QuickBooks Online, Aider covers both major ledgers and costs real money.
The inherited strong-option tier holds. Selection into the 2024 CPA.com Startup Accelerator and acquisition by a practice-management vendor with an established US install base are both evidence that this is not a science project. What keeps it below a top pick is concrete: no US price list, no published security documentation, and a close checking layer that is thinner than a reconciliation-first tool for firms whose problem is the books rather than the client conversation.

What it costs and what it connects to
Aider starts at NZD 150 per month, firm minimum (NZ$150 minimum monthly spend on a 12-month term; per-client rate falls with volume; no US price list published). Pricing is per connected client, volume tiered, unlimited users. Anything beyond the published entry tier is quoted per firm.
We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for Aider from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.
Aider connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Supporting more than one ledger matters for firms whose clients are split across them.
Beyond that: Karbon.

Why we rate Aider a Strong Option
Aider is rated Strong Option, alongside 5 other of the 11 month-end close automation tools in this directory.
A credible choice that wins on a specific fit rather than across the board — a price point, a niche, a workflow, or an integration the top picks do not cover as well.
