The read

What Oasis does

Paychex bought the Oasis professional employer organization in 2018, and what survives of it is a brand label rather than a distinct product. The page at paychex.com/oasis now opens by stating that Oasis is fully part of the Paychex brand and is one of the solutions available within Paychex HR, the old oasisadvantage.com domain redirects to paychex.com, and service specialists moved to paychex.com email addresses during the brand merge that began in April 2022. Existing accounts still log in through portal.oasisassistant.com and still call a dedicated client line, which is the clearest signal of what Oasis is today: a book of legacy contracts running on legacy plumbing while new PEO buyers get routed to Paychex PEO or the HR PEO package.

The underlying service is a full co-employment arrangement. Paychex becomes the employer of record for tax and benefits purposes, runs payroll and tax deposits, places workers' compensation, and gives the client a named HR consultant. Clients that took it on for the master medical plan generally did so because a 12-person business could not buy that coverage on its own. That logic still holds, but it is Paychex PEO's logic now, not Oasis's.

For a firm deciding how to handle client payroll, the more important fact is the channel. Paychex sells to accountants through referral and revenue share, and through an acquisition program in which Paychex buys the firm's payroll client base outright. In none of those does the firm hold the billing relationship. There is no wholesale rate to buy at and mark up, no client-billed partner discount, and no arrangement where the firm invoices for payroll and keeps the spread. The firm sends the client over, receives commission, and Paychex owns the engagement afterwards. Partner Pro gives read access to mutual clients' payroll data and the ability to send referrals and information requests, which helps with year-end work but is a visibility tool, not a processing tool. There is no batch run across a client list and no after-the-fact payroll entry for write-up work, because a PEO is not built to be operated by a third party.

Against Justworks PEO or Rippling PEO, Oasis loses on interface and on transparency. Both of those publish per-employee pricing and both give the client a modern self-service experience; Paychex quotes PEO contracts privately and the Oasis service model still runs through phone-and-specialist habits. Justworks in particular is the one a 20-person client will actually enjoy using.

The dated tier stands, and the evidence is the vendor's own page. A product whose marketing site exists mainly to explain that the brand has been absorbed, whose logins live on a separate legacy portal, and which Paychex's PEO page mentions only as one of two named support phone numbers, is not a product anyone should be adopting in 2026. Clients already on it are fine. New work belongs on Paychex PEO or elsewhere.

Our rating

Why we rate Oasis a Dated

Oasis is rated Dated: it is one of 5 of the 19 payroll & peo tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.

Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
