The read
What Translucent does
Filing Translucent as a spreadsheet connector undersells and misdescribes it. This is a multi-entity consolidation platform that sits on top of connected Xero and QuickBooks Online files and produces a group P&L, balance sheet, trial balance and combined AP and AR ledger, with a custom group chart of accounts, a chosen presentation currency and editable FX rates. Spreadsheets are an output, not the interface: consolidated reports export to XLS or to a feature called Translucent Live Sheets. A firm shopping for a live formula layer inside an existing Excel model should look elsewhere in this category. A firm whose actual problem is a client with six entities and unreconciled intercompany balances should look here first.
The intercompany app is the piece with the sharpest edge and the one to read carefully. It reconciles balances across the group, identifies the imbalance, and then posts an adjusting journal directly into Xero or QuickBooks with one click, including FX adjustment journals. Recharge rules generate intercompany invoices and journals on a recurring basis. That is a write path into live client ledgers, driven by rules a person configured weeks earlier, and the site does not document how those postings are attributed in the ledger's own audit log or what approval sits in front of them. Any firm turning on recurring rules should test what the QuickBooks audit trail shows for a machine-generated recharge before running it across a client base.
Pricing is per app and per month, not per entity or per client, which is unusual and cuts both ways. Consolidation, Intercompany, Treasury, Search, Budgets, Prepayments, Deferred Revenue and Bookkeeping Audit are bought individually at $130 a month each, or $65 each on annual billing, with unlimited users and unlimited entities on Pro. A firm that wants consolidation plus intercompany is at $260 a month before anything else, and the useful combinations add up quickly. There is a free tier per app, capped at four entities for Intercompany and Treasury. The other gap is security disclosure: no SOC 2, ISO or encryption statement appears anywhere on the product pages, which is a conspicuous omission for something that writes journals into client ledgers. Pricing is quoted in pounds first across seven currencies and the company is led by Michael Wood, who co-founded Dext, all of which points at a UK-first vendor building a US presence rather than the other way round.
LiveFlow is the direct competitor on consolidation and does intercompany elimination inside a Sheets or Excel report; it covers the spreadsheet side far better and does not publish a price. G-Accon consolidates by stacking connected companies in a sheet, which is cheaper and much less capable on eliminations.
The tier moved down from top-pick. Not because the product is weak, but because it is not really the thing this category is about, and a firm arriving here wanting live ledger data in a spreadsheet would be pointed at the wrong tool. Add to that the absent security documentation and the per-app pricing that stacks, and strong-option with a clear statement of what it is fits the evidence better.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for Translucent from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.
Translucent connects to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Supporting more than one ledger matters for firms whose clients are split across them.
Our rating
Why we rate Translucent a Strong Option
Translucent is rated Strong Option, alongside 3 other of the 6 spreadsheet reporting & ledger sync tools in this directory.
A credible choice that wins on a specific fit rather than across the board — a price point, a niche, a workflow, or an integration the top picks do not cover as well.
