The read
What Tax Maverick does
Calling Tax Maverick software undersells and oversells it at the same time. What is actually being sold is an operating model for taking a compliance practice into advisory work, assembled by David A. Perez, an enrolled agent the site credits with more than 18 years in the field, over 50,000 returns filed and a billion dollars of documented client savings. The software layer analyses a client return with AI and matches it against more than 40 strategies the vendor describes as vetted and legally reviewed. Around that sits the Maverick Framework, which is a method for pricing, packaging and presenting an advisory engagement, plus a community of firm owners and a structured training path.
There are two doors in. One is the 7-Figure Tax Advisor Bootcamp, a two-day event in Dallas. The other is Tax Maverick Pro, a six-month premium program admitted by application. That shape tells a buyer most of what they need to know about fit. A firm owner who already knows which strategies apply to their book and simply wants faster arithmetic is buying the wrong thing. A firm owner who can identify opportunities but freezes at the point of quoting four thousand dollars for a plan is the person this is built for, and the coaching is the product rather than the packaging around it.
The gaps are substantial for a directory that cares about what a tool computes. No price appears anywhere on the site, for either door. There is no trial, and the six-month program is gated behind an application, so a firm cannot try before committing. The strategy library is 40-plus against 130-plus at TaxPlanIQ, and nothing published describes what the software calculates: no mention of alternative minimum tax, net investment income tax, qualified business income phase-outs, the excess business loss limitation, or state coverage. No integration with any tax preparation package is named, so returns presumably go in as uploads. The security page describes TLS in transit and AES-256 at rest, ISO-certified data centres, role-based permissions, audit logs and third-party audits, and it references IRS Publication 4557, but it names no auditor and claims no SOC 2 report, which is why the field here says the vendor does not publish one rather than that it lacks controls.
The natural comparison is TaxPlanIQ, which sells substantially the same idea: a strategy library, an AI assistant, and a value-pricing method with a branded proposal at the end. TaxPlanIQ publishes its prices, its plan structure, its strategy count and its training schedule, and has been at it long enough to cite firm numbers. Corvee likewise publishes what a buyer is walking into. Against either of those, Tax Maverick asks for a call before it will say anything about cost.
One-to-watch is the right tier and stays. The founder credentials are specific and checkable in a way that a lot of advisory coaching is not, the security page is more detailed than several better-funded competitors bother with, and the strategies being legally reviewed is a claim worth testing. But this is a program with software inside it, sold at an undisclosed price by application, with no published detail on the projection engine underneath. That is not something to build a busy season around until more of it is visible.
