The read
What PitBullTax does
Fifteen years in the same category has left PitBullTax with an unusually clear price list and an unusually clear split between the case software and the transcript engine. A single-user licence is $135 a month, or $1,260 a year, and it carries unlimited clients. Three users cost $290 a month, ten cost $745, twenty cost $1,435. Transcripts are a separate module at $44 per user per month or $405 per user per year. On a solo practice that means the real number is roughly $1,665 a year rather than $1,260, and the transcript line is close to a quarter of total spend. The vendor also sells a one-time-use licence at $225 a month covering one individual and one business client, which is priced for the firm that takes a single levy case and never comes back, and is poor value for anyone else.
The transcript module is the strong part. It pulls through the firm's own IRS e-Services account, supports bulk transcript requests and bulk CAF checks, and produces reports for current liabilities with penalties and interest, collection statute expiration dates, bankruptcy dischargeability, first-time penalty abatement eligibility, trust fund recovery penalty exposure, compliance status, ten years of wage and income, and federal tax lien, audit and bankruptcy indicators. Monitoring runs daily and can notify both the practitioner and the client by email or SMS when new activity posts to an IRS account, which is the mechanism that catches a new assessment or a moved collection statute before it becomes a surprise. Pulls and reports are unlimited within the module, so a firm working a heavy inventory is not metering itself. The module can also be bought standalone without the main case software.
The case side covers offer in compromise, installment agreement and currently not collectible evaluation, integrated IRS forms that auto-populate from case data, engagement letters, a client portal with file exchange and chat, a fee calculator that suggests a minimum and an ideal fee, monthly office hours with the vendor, and a set of AI features for drafting emails and letters and explaining forms and Internal Revenue Manual guidance.
Two things to weigh. PitBullTax does not hold its own SOC 2 attestation and says so plainly on its security page, resting instead on AWS infrastructure certifications, US-only hosting, TLS in transit, encryption at rest, free two-factor authentication and an activity log that cannot be switched off. For a firm with a written information security plan that names SOC 2 as a vendor requirement, that is a real gate. Separately, the site does not enumerate the form library beyond "integrated IRS forms and supporting schedules" and does not state whether the reasonable collection potential calculation applies the current IRS Collection Financial Standards automatically or expects allowable living expenses to be entered by hand. Both are demo questions. Transcripts also depend on a current e-Services login and CAF authorization, and IRS registration for that runs through ID.me.
Against IRS Solutions the choice is close. IRS Solutions bundles monitoring and publishes SOC 2 compliance, PitBullTax is cheaper at the base, offers a seven-day trial where IRS Solutions offers none, and lets a firm add transcripts only for the users who need them. Top-pick holds on the published pricing, the depth of the transcript reporting, the daily monitoring, and a fifteen-year track record.
