The read

What Flyfin does

Check who the customer is before anything else here. FlyFin's main business is a direct-to-consumer subscription for freelancers and self-employed filers: connect bank and card accounts, let the AI sweep expenses against 200 or more deduction categories, upload documents, and have an assigned CPA prepare and e-file the federal and state returns. The published plans are $16 a month billed annually for Standard and $29 a month for Premium, with audit insurance and unlimited CPA questions included. The company cites 250,000 users and a 4.8 rating. That is a tax filing service competing with TurboTax, not software an accounting firm licences.

A firm-facing offer does exist and it is worth understanding for what it is. On the partner page, FlyFin describes an end-to-end service for accounting, bookkeeping and tax firms: its AI extracts data from W-2s, 1099s, profit and loss statements and prior returns, drafts a preliminary return and flags inconsistencies, then FlyFin's own in-house CPA team reviews, completes, signs and e-files the return directly with the IRS. Coverage includes C-corp, S-corp, LLC and partnership filings as well as individual returns with Schedule C and K-1s. Firms that want to file themselves are told the output arrives in a format that works with the software they already run, and CCH, UltraTax, Drake, Lacerte and ProSeries are named.

That is outsourcing with an AI front end, and the company says so in as many words when it contrasts itself with traditional outsourcing. It is a legitimate model, and for a small practice drowning in March it can work. But it is a different purchase from the rest of this category. The firm does not get a workflow tool, does not own the process, and does not keep the signature; FlyFin's CPAs sign and file. There is no e-signature product, no Form 8879 handling with knowledge-based authentication under the firm's own EFIN, no client portal the firm brands, and no software the firm's staff operate. Firms with clients who would object to their returns being prepared and signed by an outside team need to work through IRC Section 7216 consent and engagement letter implications before going near it.

The public evidence for the firm-facing side is thin. The AutoTax URL this listing points at returns a 404, the partner page carries no named firm customers, no volumes, no pricing and no SOC 2 or security disclosure, and the copy still references the 2025 season. Taxfyle is the closer comparison for a firm buying capacity, and it publishes far more about how work is routed and priced. Against Filed or Black Ore, which leave the return in the firm's own tax program under the firm's own signature, FlyFin is answering a different question entirely.

One-to-watch is kept, and the reason is fit rather than quality. The consumer product appears to be a real, working, reasonably popular service. Judged as something a US accounting firm of 2 to 50 would buy for its tax workflow, the offer is an outsourced preparation arrangement with a dead product page, no published firm pricing and no verifiable firm references. Firms should evaluate it as an outsourcing vendor, not as software.

Flyfin starts at $16 per month (Standard plan billed annually at $192; Premium at $348; firm-facing preparation is quoted separately). Pricing is per taxpayer subscription; firm engagements quoted. A free trial is available: free trial offered on the consumer plans.

We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for Flyfin from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.

Flyfin does not integrate directly with a general ledger.

On the tax side it works with CCH, UltraTax CS, Drake Tax, Lacerte and ProSeries, which covers most of what US firms run.
