The read
What Digits does
Read the firm side of the Digits pricing page and the buyer becomes obvious. A solo practice up to 50 clients pays $35 per client per month on a Starter plan the vendor marks exclusive to firms, rising through $65, $100 and $250 tiers by feature depth. A practice past 50 clients moves to Plus pricing at $50, $115 and $185. Firms past 500 clients get custom terms. Every firm plan includes unlimited team seats, roles and permissions, central billing and administration, task management and firm branding, which is exactly the wholesale shape a practice needs and which most AI ledger startups have not built.
Day to day the ledger runs itself and the staff review rather than key. A bookkeeper agent categorizes transactions against the client's own history, a reconciliation agent ties them to statements, a quality review agent checks the work and a researcher agent chases context. Agentic Close fetches bank statements automatically, flags anomalies before a human looks, and drives a custom checklist to period end. Schedules for depreciation, amortization and accruals build themselves from the transactions and post only after approval. Bill pay and invoicing live in the same place. Named practitioners quantify it: six hours saved per client per month at AllCents Consulting, two years of books in four hours at The Tax Firm. Jen Leary, chief executive of CliftonLarsonAllen, is quoted on the homepage.
Where a firm should be careful is coverage rather than capability. Digits publishes no tax software integration at all, and the tax path is described as a one-click tax package handed to a partner firm rather than a link into UltraTax, Lacerte or Drake. Practice management ties exist with Ignition, Karbon and Reach Reporting, and those partnerships are recent enough to be advertised in a site banner, which is a fair signal that the ecosystem is young. Multi-entity consolidation is not described anywhere, so clients with a group structure are the wrong fit. And per-client pricing means a firm with a long tail of small write-up clients pays for each of them, where a QuickBooks Online wholesale bill can be cheaper at the bottom end.
Against QuickBooks Online, the trade is a much better close and categorization experience against a far smaller app ecosystem and no client who already knows the interface. Against Campfire, the difference is decisive for this reader: Campfire publishes no price and no firm console, Digits publishes both. Against Puzzle and Kick, Digits has the broader product surface and the more developed accountant channel.
Top-pick holds. The evidence is the firm plan structure itself, plus SOC 2 Type II compliance stated on the security page, 12,000-plus financial institution connections, a free API and MCP server, named firm references and a claimed 7,000 accountants and business owners. This is the AI-native ledger that has actually built for the buyer this directory serves, and the reservation is scope rather than seriousness.
