The read
What Firm360 does
Brandon Gray built Firm360 after partnering at a traditional CPA firm and running into the same three problems most of them have: no visibility into where jobs actually sit, too much paper, and billing that lags the work by weeks. The product answers those directly. Projects carry deadlines and statuses that roll up into firm-wide views, documents live in one store with a client portal in front of them, time tracking feeds billing with accounts receivable automation behind it, and AutoPrep pulls prior-year data forward to reduce the manual setup at the start of a return.
What separates it from the cheaper end of this category is the tax integration list and the compliance documentation. UltraTax, Lacerte, Drake and Intuit ProConnect all connect directly, which means return status in the practice system reflects what is actually happening in the tax package rather than what somebody remembered to tick. On the security side Firm360 publishes an annual third-party SOC 2 Type II audit, makes the report available to customers and prospects, and maintains a CSA STAR Level 1 entry in the Cloud Security Alliance registry, which is verifiable independently. Data sits on AWS across multiple US regions with 30-day point-in-time recovery, AES-256 at rest, and mandatory two-factor authentication for internal staff.
The friction points are practical. Standard and Premium both carry a three-user minimum, so a two-person firm is either on Basic at $49 or paying for a seat it does not use, and Basic omits project management, accounts receivable automation and advanced reporting, which is most of the reason to buy. Unlimited e-signature, AutoPrep, the AI connector and Zapier are all on Premium at $99 per user per month, so a five-person firm wanting the full product is at roughly $5,940 a year. No free trial is published anywhere on the site, so evaluation runs through a sales demo. There is no Xero integration, which rules it out for firms with a Xero-heavy bookkeeping book. And the security page states that a bulk document export is free only when a firm is terminating its subscription, and carries a service fee otherwise, which is worth knowing before loading years of source documents into it.
Canopy is the obvious comparison and costs $74 to $149 per user per month, buying a wider integration set, tax resolution, capacity planning and Xero. TaxDome is flatter-priced and better suited to high-volume 1040 preparation. Financial Cents undercuts Firm360 at the Team tier but publishes only a SOC 2 Type I and carries fewer tax connectors. Firm360's argument is that it sits between Financial Cents and Canopy on price while matching Canopy on the two things a mid-sized CPA firm actually gets asked about: the tax package connection and the audit report.
Strong-option is confirmed. The evidence for a higher tier is there in the compliance documentation and the tax integrations, and it is held back by the three-user minimum, the absence of a published trial, the document export fee and the lack of any Xero support. Firm details such as founding year and headcount are not published, so the vendor's size could not be established.
