The read
What TaxTree does
Two businesses are being sold on one page here. The first is practice software: a client manager where the firm sets its own service list and prices, a time tracker with staff reporting and profit sharing, billing and collections, a file cabinet, and a client portal that carries video calls and chat alongside document exchange. The second is a fulfilment centre, where TaxTree's own staff perform the bookkeeping, payroll across all fifty states, business formation, sales tax filings, individual and business returns, and ITIN and FIRPTA work that the subscribing firm has sold. Marketing sits on top, with multi-language firm websites, landing pages and CRM lead tracking.
That combination points at a particular buyer: a preparer building a book of business faster than a back office, who would rather resell capacity than hire. The Brand plan makes the model explicit, at $1,000 a month plus a $10,000 setup fee, aimed at existing franchisors and large brands and including sales agent management and royalty tracking. Read the three tiers together and this is closer to a franchise platform with software attached than to practice management a firm buys and runs alone.
The commercial terms are where most firms will stop. Setup fees run from $1,000 on the $250 Single Accountant plan to $2,500 on the $400 Accounting Firm plan, which is unusual in a category where competitors take a card and start a trial the same day. No trial is offered. On the technical side the integration list is short and revealing: Xero, SharePoint, SignNow, SendGrid and an e-file status import, with no QuickBooks Online connection and no named tax software, so a firm on Drake or UltraTax and QuickBooks gets very little automatic linkage. Nothing on the site addresses SOC 2, encryption, MFA or data residency, which is a real problem for a product whose pitch involves handing client records to an outsourced preparation team. The company publishes no founding date, no headquarters and no leadership page.
A firm that wants practice management alone will do better elsewhere for less. Financial Cents and Client Hub both cover workflow, portal and QuickBooks Online sync at a fraction of the cost with no setup fee. TaxDome adds seven tax software integrations, an official IRS transcript connection and a published SOC 2 Type II report. If the appeal is the outsourced fulfilment rather than the software, then the honest comparison is not with these tools at all but with offshore preparation providers, and the software should be evaluated separately from the labour.
Dated is kept, though for a slightly different reason than the label usually implies. The site carries a current copyright and the pricing is live, so this is not an abandoned product. What is dated is the shape of the offer: front-loaded setup fees, a single ledger integration, no tax software, no security disclosure and a portal-plus-website bundle that reads like the 2016 generation of firm-in-a-box products. A US firm of 2 to 50 staff that just wants its work tracked should not start here.

What it costs and what it connects to
TaxTree starts at $250 per month (Single Accountant $250/mo with a $1,000 setup fee, Accounting Firm $400/mo with $2,500 setup, Brand $1,000/mo with $10,000 setup). Pricing is per firm, per month plus a setup fee.
We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for TaxTree from public sources. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.
TaxTree connects to Xero, which is the integration that decides whether a tool fits a firm's existing book of clients.
Beyond that: SharePoint, SignNow, SendGrid and E-file status import.
Our rating
Why we rate TaxTree a Dated
TaxTree is rated Dated: it is one of 18 of the 49 practice management tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.
Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
