The read
What taxWorkFlow does
Pricing is what makes this product worth a look, and it is genuinely unusual. One flat rate of $1,500 a year covers the entire firm, with no per-user charge, unlimited access to every feature, and installation, customisation, training and support included at no extra cost. New clients get six months before any subscription fee or deposit is due, and the vendor says the rate is locked permanently for existing customers. A ten-person office pays $150 per head per year, which is roughly one month of a single TaxDome or Qount seat.
What that money buys is a self-contained work system. Tasks can be defined once for the whole firm or tailored per client. Exception alerts, some automatic and some raised by staff, flag work that has stopped moving. Documents live in a shared client file, and an email client is built in so correspondence stays attached to the job rather than sitting in one preparer's Outlook. A client portal handles document exchange. It is the same set of jobs a modern platform does, assembled by a small vendor for a firm that would rather pay once a year than negotiate seats.
The signals of age are hard to miss and matter more than the low price. Every page on the site sits behind an /index.php/ path, the URL structure of a Joomla or similar CMS from the mid 2000s, and the site presents no screenshots of a current interface, no changelog, no release notes and no news. No integrations are named at all, so there is no link to Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSeries or QuickBooks Online, and e-file status has to be tracked by hand. There is no security page: no SOC 2, no statement on encryption, MFA or where data is held, which is a serious omission for a system that stores client tax documents. The company publishes no headquarters, no founding date and no leadership page, only a New York area phone number and a note that sales tax applies in New York and New Jersey. Support and continuity therefore rest on a vendor a buyer knows almost nothing about.
TaxFlow charges $30 per seat per month for a narrower product but is a current, actively marketed one. Jetpack Workflow costs more and offers less than taxWorkFlow on paper, and rather more in practice once track record, support and integrations are counted. Automated Tax Office Manager occupies similar territory as a long-established, low-cost tool for small tax offices, and is the closest peer in both age and pitch.
Dated is the right tier and the evidence keeps it there. The product is still sold, the pricing page is live, and a small firm running it today has no urgent reason to move. Adopting it in 2026 is a different question. A buyer would be committing client data to a platform with no published security posture, no integrations, no visible development activity and no disclosed company behind it, and the $1,500 saving does not cover that risk for most firms.

Our rating
Why we rate taxWorkFlow a Dated
taxWorkFlow is rated Dated: it is one of 18 of the 49 practice management tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.
Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
