The read

What OLT Pro does

Price is the entire proposition here, and it is a serious one. On-Line Taxes sells OLT PRO in three shapes: $499 for a web package capped at 25 created returns, $849 for OLTPRO Web with unlimited returns, and $999 for OLTPRO Desktop with unlimited returns and full network setup for a multi-user office. All fifty states and DC are included, e-filing carries no per-return charge, and the entity list is far wider than the price suggests, covering 1040 and 1040-NR alongside 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, 990, 706, 709, 5500, 2290, 720, 8849 and 8038-CP. A firm paying $3,295 elsewhere for unlimited returns is paying roughly three times as much for the same volume permission.

What comes with it is functional rather than polished: a taxpayer portal and mobile app for document upload and e-signature, W-2, 1099 and K-1 import, centralized client records, multi-user access and basic business reporting. Bank product partners are in place, with Refundo, Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, Refund Advantage, Republic Bank and EPS Financial handling refund settlement and fee collection, so an office running refund transfers is covered.

The reasons to hesitate are visible before installing anything. The site is still built on PHP page URLs and reads as though it has been maintained rather than rebuilt for a long stretch, with no changelog, no security page and no SOC 2 evidence available. Nothing published explains what a conversion from another package brings across, which is the question that decides whether the price is real: prior-year depreciation schedules and carryforwards that have to be rekeyed cost more in staff hours than the software saves. There is no published detail on scan-and-populate, so document automation is likely a manual step or a third-party purchase. Support is a US phone number rather than a documented service level.

Compared with UltimateTax and TaxSlayer Pro, which compete in the same value bracket, OLT PRO's advantage is unlimited returns at a flat price with entity breadth that reaches 5500 and 8038-CP filings. Compared with Drake Tax, the honest framing is that Drake costs three to four times more and buys diagnostics, a documented conversion list from ten packages, a fifty-year support organization and a product that new staff can be hired into. For a firm where software is a meaningful share of overhead, that gap is worth arguing about. For a firm where one botched busy season costs more than the difference, it is not.

Dated is kept. The pricing is current and the product is clearly still sold and still filing, so this is not an abandoned package. But the presentation, the absence of published security, conversion or automation detail, and the lack of any visible development narrative all fit the tier: fine to stay on if it works, hard to justify adopting today unless the price is the constraint that overrides everything else.

Our rating

Why we rate OLT Pro a Dated

OLT Pro is rated Dated: it is one of 4 of the 18 tax preparation tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.

Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
