The read

What Mango does

Two older products fused into this one. ImagineTime was founded in 1999 by a CPA, Fred Lindsley, who wanted better visibility into his own practice; Carl Coe bought the company in 2018, added ImagineShare for secure file sharing and e-signature in 2019, and acquired Mango Billing in 2020, merging Tim Sines's product with ImagineTime under the Mango name. The result still reads like software built by people who bill in six-minute increments. Time and billing is the centre of gravity, with hourly and project tracking, recurring invoices, integrated ACH and card payments, and several hundred prebuilt reports. Around it sit project management with accounting-specific templates, document management, a client portal, an engagement letter builder, capacity planning and workflow.

The natural buyer is a firm whose revenue model is still hours times rate. A ten-person CPA practice running tax compliance alongside monthly write-up work, or a consulting firm tracking realisation by staff member, will find more reporting depth here than most cloud-native competitors offer, and every plan ships with free implementation including data import, setup, training and 200 e-signatures, which removes the usual barrier of migrating years of WIP by hand. Firms that have moved fully to fixed-fee or subscription pricing will be paying for machinery they do not use. The site also markets to attorneys and consultants alongside CPAs, so some of the product surface is not accounting-specific.

The clearest weakness is commercial rather than technical: Mango does not publish plan names or per-seat prices anywhere on its pricing page. A buyer comparing against Financial Cents at $19 or Karbon at $59 cannot make that comparison without booking a demo, which is a meaningful friction for a firm of five people. The security page is similarly half-open. It links a 2025 SOC 2 Type 2 report covering all five trust services criteria, which is genuinely more than most tools at this size publish, but says nothing about encryption, MFA or hosting, so the technical questions have to be asked. And the ledger integration list is a single name, QuickBooks, with no Xero connector documented.

Against Practice CS, the Thomson Reuters product Mango most resembles in philosophy, Mango is cloud-native and sells to firms far below Thomson Reuters's usual floor. Against Financial Cents, Mango is weaker on modern workflow automation and stronger on billing, realisation reporting and tax software links. Against BQE Core, which comes at the same problem from the professional services side, Mango is the one that actually connects to tax packages.

Moved from dated to strong-option. The inherited rating fits the origin story, a 1999 desktop product carried forward, but not the current evidence. A SOC 2 Type 2 report dated 2025 is on the site, the integration page names five tax packages including UltraTax, Lacerte, ProConnect, ATX and Drake, which is a longer list than most cloud practice management vendors manage, and the company states it has grown over 200 percent since 2018. That is an actively maintained product with a specific and defensible fit. What keeps it out of top-pick is the hidden pricing and the thin security disclosure beyond the SOC 2 link.

What it costs and what it connects to

Mango Practice Management does not publish a price for Mango; it is quoted per firm, usually on firm size or entity count.

Mango holds a SOC 2 Type 2 report.

Mango connects to QuickBooks, which is the integration that decides whether a tool fits a firm's existing book of clients.

On the tax side it works with UltraTax, Lacerte, ProConnect, ATX and Drake Software, which covers most of what US firms run.

Beyond that: Outlook, Gmail and Google Calendar.
