The read
What Onvio does
Thomson Reuters describes Onvio Firm Management as cloud-native, and that word is doing real work: it is the browser product in a line where almost everything else installs on Windows. The scope is documents, a client portal, projects and tasks, time and billing, and a trial balance, all against one client list. Document handling covers automated collection and scanning into folder structures a firm defines. Projects carry due dates, budgets and profitability reporting, with batch status updates so a partner can move fifty returns from review to signature in one action. The portal has a firm's branding on it and two mobile apps behind it. Sign-in runs through onvio.us with multi-factor authentication required, using either a NetStaff CS account or a Thomson Reuters ID.
This fits one firm profile squarely: a practice already preparing returns in UltraTax CS or doing write-up in Accounting CS, which wants staff and clients working in a browser without moving the tax engine. Those two products, plus GoFileRoom, are the integrations Thomson Reuters names on the page. A firm on Drake, Lacerte or ProConnect gets very little of the value, because the integration is the value. Outside the Thomson Reuters stack there is no reason to shortlist this over the independent cloud products.
The commercial friction is the real weakness. Thomson Reuters publishes no price, no tier list and no trial for Onvio. There is a phone number. That is a long way from the self-serve evaluation a ten-person firm expects in 2026, and it means the total cost only becomes visible once UltraTax CS, Accounting CS and Onvio are quoted together. There is no public changelog and no security or trust page to point at. The other structural oddity is that Thomson Reuters lists Onvio on its CS Professional Suite page as one of its "other brands" rather than as part of the suite, which leaves a buyer guessing about how the two lines relate over time.
Compared with Practice CS, the sibling product, Onvio is the cloud answer and Practice CS is the desktop one, and a firm running Practice CS today is the most likely Onvio prospect. Compared with Karbon or Canopy, Onvio is thinner on workflow: no capacity planning, no email triage against the client record, no template library of the depth those two ship. TaxDome beats it on the client-facing side. CCH Axcess Practice from Wolters Kluwer is the closest direct rival, and it has the same quote-only, suite-locked commercial shape.
Dated is kept, with a caveat worth stating plainly. The product is actively marketed, the page carries current customer quotes and a live sales line, so this is not a withdrawn product. What could not be established from anything Thomson Reuters publishes is release cadence, pricing, or whether Onvio or Practice CS is the long-term home for firm management. A product that cannot be evaluated without a sales call, and whose worth depends entirely on owning the rest of the vendor's stack, is not keeping pace with what a 2 to 50 person firm can now buy in an afternoon.

What it costs and what it connects to
Thomson Reuters does not publish pricing for Onvio. Expect a quote based on firm size, user count, or number of entities.
We could not confirm a SOC 2 report for Onvio from public sources, multi-factor authentication is available. Ask the vendor directly before it touches client data — an absence here means unverified, not absent.
Onvio connects to Accounting CS, which is the integration that decides whether a tool fits a firm's existing book of clients.
On the tax side it works with UltraTax CS.
Beyond that: GoFileRoom and NetStaff CS.
Our rating
Why we rate Onvio a Dated
Onvio is rated Dated: it is one of 18 of the 49 practice management tools here that still works but is no longer keeping pace.
Still sold and still working, but no longer keeping pace — thin investment, an aging interface, or a roadmap that has visibly stalled. Fine to stay on, hard to recommend adopting.
